Currently the affectees do not have basic needs of life. Women & children are among the most affected. Sungi being a humanitarian agency is trying to help the affected communities & playing its role to minimize the affects of this man-made disaster.

On May 09, a team of Sungi staff left for Mardan & Swabi to make initial assessment & distribution of food, tents and blankets. Uptil now they have distributed 229 tents, 200 food packages & 916 blankets to the most vulnerable, where special focus was on women & children. Church & minorities were also provided with relief items to fulfill their needs.

Sungi while focusing on vulnerable groups established a specific plot for women headed households and disabled in Sheikh Yasin Camp Mardan.  59 tents have been installed for these families.

On May 12, Sungi facilitated district government & social welfare department to register the IDPs living with host families in district Abbottabad at Jalalbaba Auditorium. Banners were placed on visible places to make IDPs aware of registration venue. During the registration process detailed assessment was also conducted for future interventions for those people. The basic needs of the families are shelter, food, health. They are badly traumatized.

In Mansehra, Sungi's representative at District Disaster Management Cell is facilitating social welfare department in registering IDPs. None of the camps have been started in District Mansehra & Abbottabad.

In Haripur, Sungi has been part of District Disaster Management Authority in facilitating registration of IDPs. Need assessment has already been conducted & a plan has been chalked out to support the affectees.

Future Plans:

Sungi is planning to initiate the following activities for iDPs in coming days.

  • Detailed need assessments of IDPs Medical camps.
  • Installation of Tandoors in Haripur camp.
  • Facilitation in registration.
  • Sungi is also negotiating with different donor organizations to extend further support to IDPs in relief and recovery.
