Community forestation and protection of natural resources including fresh water sources have been part of intervention of SDF in the northern parts of the country over the years. SDF has been working closely with the communities in organizing local communities for protection of forests, natural water reservoirs and ways which are major part of livelihood for forest communities. Sungi works to minimize dependence of local communities on forest particularly for domestic use including firewood.
In purist of achieving this goal, Sungi, along with local communities, has fought long battle against the timber mafia in the country. Sungi remains engage with relevant government departments for adequate policy reforms for illegal wood cutting and effective implementation of policies at the local level. Sungi has also been a frontline proponent for environmental protection from mega infrastructure projects and rehabilitation of affected communities including Ghazi Brotha Dam and New Murree Project.
