Independence Day and Clean & Green Drive in Tehsil Judba, Torghar

On 14th August, 2024, Sungi Development Foundation (SDF) in collaboration with the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) conducted Independence Day Celebraions and Clean & Green Drive in Tehsil Judbad District Torghar. The event commenced in Government High School Judbah and was attended by 123 participants from different locations within the District. The success of this event was possible due to the support and partnership of the District  Administration, the Forest Department, and the Agriculture, Social welfare department, District Youth Officer , District Support Officer Torghar.

The event started with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the National anthem, followed by various speeches from esteemed guests. The concluding address was given by the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Torghar Zia ur Rahman Marwat, who said that the district administration will work in close coordination with SDF to address and resolve the problems of the selected communities. Among others, District Police Officer Mukhtiar Shah and Regional Head of Sungi Development Foundation Shahid Aziz also addressed the event. One of the day’s most symbolic moments came when Deputy Commissioner Zia ur Rahman Marwat unfurled the national flag. As the flag soared high, it was saluted by those in attendance, a gesture that reinforced the collective pride and dedication to the nation. Following this, DPO Torghar Syed Mukhtar Shah planted a tree, symbolizing the beginning of a broader Clean & Green Drive aimed at enhancing the region’s environmental health. In this manner, the tree-planting ceremony became more than a mere formality; and it represented a tangible step towards achieving the goals of environmental conservation and sustainability in Torghar.

The event was concluded with a heartfelt prayer for the development and prosperity of Pakistan, as well as for the establishment of lasting peace and order throughout the country. This prayer was a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by the nation and the collective responsibility of its citizens to contribute to its progress, and to keep the hope of brighter days intact.

The celebrations did not end with the formal ceremony. Later, a rally was organized, that lead participants from school in Judbah. As the rally progressed, solgans and chants of “Pakistan Zindabad,” echoed the spirit of patriotism and unity among the participants. As a result, the rally became a powerful demonstration for solidarity. Later, a ceremony was held at Government Higher Secondary School Jadba in which school children and other seniors presented songs, speeches and anthems. Deputy Commissioner Zia ur Rahman Marwat and DPO Torghar Syed Mukhtar Shah both spoke passionately on the significance of Independence Day and the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s founding leaders. They reminded the audience that the freedom enjoyed today is the result of immense struggle and that it is the duty of every citizen to contribute to the nation’s ongoing development and prosperity. Mr. Shahid Aziz, representing Sungi Development Foundation, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the continued efforts of SDF and PPAF, in collaboration with the district administration, to build climate resilience in Torghar. He spoke about the importance of initiatives such as the Clean & Green Drive in mitigating the effects of climate change and enhancing the region’s capacity to adapt to environmental challenges.

Overall, the Independence Day celebrations in Tehsil Judba, District Torghar, were more than just a commemoration of Pakistan’s past; they were a call to action for its future. The event highlighted the importance of community engagement, environmental sustainability, and collaborative efforts in building a better Pakistan for everyone. The message of the event was clear: Independence is not just a historical event to be remembered, but a living legacy to be honoured through ongoing commitment and action.
