16 Days of activism : A campaign on GBV (Gender-based violence) Awareness
Sungi development Foundation conducted an activity for 16 days to create awareness on GBV with the collaboration of our partners in the marginal communities of districts Abbottabad and Sheikhupura. This activity left a great impact on all the participants. Many participants sharedsimilar experiences like these, especially young girls. The activity mainly empowered the effected population to come forward and to be vocal about their personal experiences.
During video screening sessions many women participants showed great interest in the videos and shared some interesting real-life stories about GBV and child marriage.
Many women from minorities are working actively to stop GBV in their areas. Women demonstrated marathons in their areas to create awareness about GBV through posters and placards of Aawaz II Program.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and advocate for the prevention and elimination of such violence.During these 16 days, various organizations, activists, and individuals come together to engage in activities and events that focus on addressing different forms of gender-based violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, harassment, and harmful practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation.
The campaign provides an opportunity for people to share information, stories, and resources, and it encourages discussions on ways to combat GBV at individual, community, and systemic levels. Different themes and initiatives are often highlighted, focusing on specific aspects of gender-based violence or targeting particular demographics.
Participants in the 16 Days of Activism may organize events, workshops, seminars, and social media campaigns to spread awareness, educate communities, and advocate for policy changes to combat gender-based violence. The campaign serves as a powerful platform to amplify the voices of survivors, challenge harmful norms and stereotypes, and promote gender equality.
It’s important to note that addressing gender-based violence requires ongoing efforts beyond the 16 days of activism. Many organizations work year-round to create lasting change, but the designated 16-day period provides a concentrated and globally recognized opportunity to draw attention to the issue and mobilize collective action.
