Sungi Development Foundation (SDF) organized a district forum meeting on 22 June 2023 in the office of district social welfare officer, Abbottabad. Meeting was attended by 25 participants including People with Disabilities (PWDs), representatives of religious minorities and representativesof transgender persons to raise their issues with the concerned departments.
Representative of social welfare department, Dar-ul Aman, Child Protection Unit, DCSW, District Bar Associations, and Media, Village Forum member, representative of the Local Government Departments, Human Rights committee members and staff of the Election Commission also attended the meeting.
Sungi team shared the detail progress of village forums and Aagahi Centers established in the district. During the meeting, the participants discussed potential future collaboration between VF and DF. Detailed discussion was held around the existing issues and the role of different governance bodies at the district level.Later on, an Action Plan was developed focusingon PWDs accessibility issues, minorities’ job quota issue, transgender protection and access to services, and women protection issues.
Sungi is making efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the existing governance structures by addressing public issues and inclusion of deprived segments of society. The project is funded by British Council through Awaaz Programme.
