Project Brief:

Pakistan arrest the severe ecological degradation issues in recent eras Sungi Development Foundation remained an advocacy-oriented NGO focusing on environmental issues, particularly deforestation, water conservation, climate change and Solid Waste Management.

Sungi is able to pilot community driven projects and able to build the pyramid of development which was pillared on three tier social mobilization, need based capacity building, promoting and protecting local natural resources and addressing Climate changes issues, through involvement of youth/volunteers spreading awareness on rights and creating bridges between right holders and state.

Sungi Development Foundation started climate changes related project namely Pakistan Youth Leadership Initiative (PYLI). which is managed by British Council Pakistan has launched a new youth leadership project called It is a three-year project led by British Council Pakistan in partnership with Government’s Prime Minister’s Youth Development Programme, Higher Education Commission (HEC), local CSOs and public universities. The project is co-funded by Qatar based Education Above All Foundation’s programme “Reach Out to Asia”. The core thematic areas of the Pakistan Youth Leadership Initiative (PYLI) are:

  • Tree Plantation and Forestation
  • Water Conservation
  • Renewable Energy
  • Solid Waste Management
  • Climate Education for Schools and Colleges

PYLI, an integral component of the Green Youth Movement(GYM) project supported by the British Council, aims to empower young women and men across Pakistan with the necessary skills and knowledge to combat climate action. Through this initiative, the British Council will oversee the execution of capacity building programs. This project will also train 90,000 youth from universities and communities in the Global Citizenship Education, leadership, and Climate Action curriculum. This youth will then go out to their communities to carry out Youth Led Climate Actions (YLAs), be involved in policy dialogue and advocacy, participate in national and international climate events, and showcase their successful projects.
