Governance and Social Harmony

Governance and social harmony is yet another pillar of SDF programming. The program is premised on the understanding that the poor governance of public services, uneven distribution of resources, human rights issues, and lack of trust among citizens and the state have contributed to the growing number of local disputes which often turn into major acts of violence. Under the program, SDF is supporting and working to address issues related to land rights, access to water and effective management of natural resource, pre-emption and amicable resolution of local disputes, tolerance and improving access to formal justice system. To improve the citizen-state relationship and enhancing accountability, SDF organizes public assemblies, women representation in governance processes, citizen participation in democratic political processes, strengthening local governments, effective access to public services and improving citizen’s right to information.
